Polk County Marriage License Basics

Oregon marriage eligibility rules in the county materials are specific. Both applicants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants cannot be first cousins or nearer kin. Blood tests and medical exams are not required. A license can be issued one day after a final divorce date, and a license obtained in any Oregon county can be used only in Oregon. Once issued, Polk County lists no extensions or refunds.

A decorative marriage certificate is not legal proof of marriage. The Clerk's certified copy is the legal copy used for name changes, benefits, legal filings, and other formal proof. Recent marriage license work should go through the Polk County Clerk. The Clerk's Digital Research Room may help with public indexes and images, but the visible disclaimer says images are not certified true, complete, and exact copies. That matters for legal use. Use the Digital Research Room as a research path, not as a substitute for a certified copy when a certified marriage record is required.

The disclaimer is the key limit: online images may help identify a record, but certified copies still come from the Clerk.

Polk County Divorce Records

Divorce records are not held in the marriage license portal. Oregon divorce, separation, annulment, custody, and support cases are Circuit Court records. In Polk County, that means divorce file access goes through Polk County Circuit Court and the Oregon Judicial Department system. Free online search may show limited case information for public family cases, but official register access, file inspection, and certified copies use the court's public terminals, clerk counter, OJCIN for eligible subscribers, or a written records request to the Trial Court Administrator.
