Polk County Clerk Marriage Records

The Polk online marriage application starts the license process. The application landing page instructs users to complete the online application, then both parties must appear at the Clerk's Office to sign and pay. After the ceremony, the completed license is returned to the Clerk's Office for recording.

County Clerk vs Circuit Court

Use the County Clerk for marriage licenses, recording, election records, county indexes, and certified marriage copies. Use Polk County Circuit Court / Trial Court Administrator for Circuit Court case files. That includes divorce records, custody cases, criminal cases, civil judgments, probate files, protective orders, and many state-law violations.

This split also affects fees. County Clerk marriage-copy fees are not the same as OJD court copy fees. The Circuit Court may charge $0.25 per page and $5 per certificate for court case copies, while the County Clerk's certified marriage copy fee is $7.75 for the first copy and $4.00 for each added copy.

Polk County Clerk Hours Cutoffs

Polk County Clerk Record Limits

County Clerk records are public-record resources, but they are not all official court records. A recorded image in the Digital Research Room is not a certified true copy under the disclaimer language captured in the research. A marriage license copy from the Clerk's Office does not prove a divorce, custody order, or current marital status after later court proceedings. A commissioners' journal record is a county government record, not a Circuit Court docket.

When the record is needed for court, agency filing, title review, or another formal use, ask whether a certified copy is required.
